CHAPTER SIX

WE HATE CREEPERS

….

Jaz didn’t like being annoyed at her sister. Oh, it happened plenty of times. But she liked it better when they got along.

Still, Kayla had said she’d get the wool. And she hadn’t. She hadn’t brought back any helpful resources at all except for a few bits of coal, a piece of string, and cobblestone. Matt, at least, had brought some spruce wood.

This wasn’t as much fun as Jaz had hoped it would be.

Somehow, they got through the night. Jaz worked on plans for the expansion of the house, including a second floor. Matt and Dave talked quietly over by the windows. They watched the monsters outside. Kayla moved to sit on the floor. She looked thoughtful, but she didn’t say anything.

Finally, the sun started rising and the sky in the east glowed pink again. Everyone breathed a sigh of relief. Then, the “aie, aie” sound of burning zombies and the rattle of skeletons caught out in the sun started.

Dave headed for the door immediately. He had an iron chestplate on, but no other armor. He was carrying a hoe instead of a sword.

“We’re going to need more food,” he said. “The stuff in the chest is pretty much cleaned out. I’ve been replanting everything else.”

Kayla bounced to her feet. “Wait! Even if the zombies and skeletons are dying, that doesn’t mean it’s safe. Let me go…”

“I know that!” Dave gave her another annoyed look. He opened the door and stepped outside without looking.

BOOM!

The others ran for the door. Well, there wasn’t a door there anymore. The windows in front of the house had been blown out too. A few chunks of cobblestone were gone. And there was a big pit in the dirt outside.

CREEPERS START TO BLOW UP WHEN THEY’RE WITHIN THREE BLOCKS OF A PLAYER. IF YOU CAN GET OUT OF THE CREEPER’S BLAST RADIUS (THE DISTANCE THAT WILL BE AFFECTED BY ITS EXPLOSION), THE ONCOMING EXPLOSION WILL STOP. THE BLAST RADIUS IS SEVEN BLOCKS.
